Roopkund Lake is only three metres deep and crystal clear for one month each year when it is ice-free. When the discovery of bones was reported the lake soon became known as Skeleton Lake or Mystery Lake. Roopkund (locally known as Mystery Lake or Skeleton Lake) is a high altitude glacial lake in the Uttarakhand state of India. It lies in the lap of Trishul massif.
