Under this definition, according to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the residential school at Lac La Biche, Notre Dame des Victoires, was in operation from 1893-1898. The Lac La Biche Mission operated a continuous day/boarding school from 1862 -1969. In 1877, federal funding was provided for a new school and in 1893, the school was officially designated an Indian Residential School (IRS) under the name Notre Dame des Victoires.
